About Jo

Hi, I’m Jo Cavalot 😊

Funny when writing who I am all those labels come to mind…

woman, white, alcoholic, child of a drinker, project manager, non-mum (the nameless label after miscarriages and having no kids), divorcee, orphan, professional organiser, hoarding practitioner, coach, woman who lived in a van (nomad), ultra-runner, pilgrim… 😉

…so many things that ‘define’ me or have done in the past.

Are they important?

Some of those labels speak to my experiences, which have played a huge part in the journey to become who I am today, so yes, they are.

What they are NOT is all that I am!

For example alcoholic – I haven’t used alcohol since April 2012, so am I an alcoholic, a former alcoholic, a recovered alcoholic, a recovering alcoholic?…

And is it important?..

What is important to me is my Self, my essence, my core, my soul, you may call it.

I am on an amazing journey discovering who I am and the Camino has been a massive part of that journey.

I got buried under all those labels, experiences and behaviours I adopted because of what had happened in my world.

I am uncovering ME one bit at a time.

Jo Cavalot AKA Jo the Pilgrim

As a result, my reactions to life are changing and I am making different choices.

Things that used to drive me, don’t. Behaviours that used to be automatic are shifting.

I am more able to lead from a self-regulated place and not react to life.

I am becoming more intentional in my actions as I uncover my truth about what I want and need in my life. Less farting around, not getting anywhere 😉.

I am choosing myself!

I have done this and continue through many approaches, modalities and tools I have learned throughout my life, but more specifically since getting into recovery.

Some of the tools and approaches that have changed my life — and that I use to support others include:

  • Ikigai
  • ADHD coaching
  • Intuitive Coaching
  • Internal Family Systems® (IFS) – or parts work
  • Compassionate Inquiry® (CI) – a psychotherapeutic approach developed by Dr. Gabor Maté
  • Working with Complex Trauma and CPTSD
  • Suicide Attention, Prevention and Intervention
  • Neuroscience and Psychology of Addiction and Recovery
  • The Polyvagal Theory
  • OCD, The Brain and Recovery
  • Mental Health First Aid
  • Advocacy
  • 12-Step Recovery

I am also using these approaches, modalities and tools to help other people, as working with people is a big part of what I love and, I believe, a co-creation for mutual benefit.

Since moving to Spain in late 2023, so much has continued to unfold. I now live in a tiny village in the mountains of Northern Spain — renovating a house that sits on the Camino itself, caring for pilgrims as they pass the gate. Which, it turns out, is exactly what I was doing in a past life. Make of that what you will.

My work has evolved too. Book 1 – “Your Way, Your Camino – Book 1: The Ultimate Camino Planning Guide” was where it started. The practical stuff. How to plan, what to pack, how to train.

But then “Your Way, Your Camino – Book 1.5: The Inner Journey” arrived. Because the more Caminos I walked, the more I understood that the practical questions were never really the point. The real question was always deeper. What are you carrying? What do you need to put down? What is the Camino actually calling you to do?

That’s what I’m here to help you figure out.

I hope you enjoy this website and everything it offers. And I hope that one day I see you on the path. 👣
